I really want to do a story set in Eldracor. Right now I'm thinking something about a prodigy mortal, who taught themselves to build advanced Palidaeans/Eldracor tech by taking apart broken clockwork devices and fixing them. Eventually, they manage to make their way to one of the Eldracor universities, but given their lack of formal education and training, aren't given much respect, and maybe even have to do something to earn their place or prove themselves.

Maybe upon first getting there, they basically just get turned away. So they go and get a job doing something menial in the university library, and use every chance they get to study the books. Eventually maybe someone realizes their potential (maybe the librarian) and help to foster it.

This one feels like it could make a good short story.

For context, before reading, I would recommend that you read a little bit about Palidae and it's Guild system.

So I've had my first idea for a story set in Kamirell, which I promptly wrote down in a note on my phone, below is that exact note:

Possible story:<blockquote>

Ship that travels around picking up and

returning home artefacts which explorers

have discovered on their journeys, so that

they can keep going without having to

return home after every place they visit.

Oftentimes this is returning artefacts to

the Explorer's Guild in Palidae.</blockquote>Really at the heart of it this would center around whatever character it is that has decided to start up this venture. I think this has a fair bit of potential, as each journey to pick up some artefact could allow for any number of unique obstacles. It is also something that I could easily start with a short story on, but then grow into something more over time. Possible some form of web serial, given it's inherently episodic form?

I got this idea a couple weeks ago while brainstorming about guild interactions while out for a walk one morning. It sparked from thinking about whether or not a person can be a member of more than one guild, and why they would even want to be. While you can read about that further in the actual element for Palidae, this particular story came out of the interactions of the Explorer's and Seafarer's Guilds.

I like the idea of this being a fairly unique business, as travelling all across the world transporting singular artefacts is likely not the most profitable business model, however this person and their crew doesn't do it for the money at the end of the day, but rather the adventure. They get to see all the most overlooked facets of the world from the most treacherous to the most beautiful.

I definitely want to get more of the world fleshed out before writing anything within it, but I will definitely be keeping this story idea in mind for once I have more to work with.

This story would follow a young rebel, living under the oppressive rule of the monarch in Keldaron. Them and their teenaged friends attack a royal carriage they believe to be transporting gold or jewels or something valuable, but instead they find it is transporting the prince or princess. Some in the group believe they should kill them. Others believe they should ransom them back to the capitol. The main character is conflicted. The group decided to take them captive while they make a decision.

Maybe the main character forms a connection with them and decide to let them go. As soon as they get back to the capitol, the royal soldiers come and find them. Maybe they kill most of the group, but the main character wasn't at their camp, or in the village or wherever they were staying. (maybe they raze the entire village) MC gets back to see this and makes it their mission to get revenge.

They eventually get to the capitol and break in. They find the price or princess or whoever, wanting them dead. But they find out somehow that they actually didn't want them dead, they didn't send out the soldier, someone from the original crew at the carriage somehow found out where they went and sent them in. (maybe simply followed them from the carriage or something) The prince or princess tried to stop their parent from sending in the soldiers, because MC had been kind to them and released them, but it was too late. (not that it would have mattered anyway, the parent is basically and evil dictator)

Not sure what will happen next.

This feels like it could make a good novel, or maybe just a novella.

1. Really getting started now. (09/15/2021)
I've added a couple new brainstorming sessions, as well as updated the existing one to have a little bit more exposition.

I've also added a folder for what I'm tentatively calling “Blog” Posts, which I'll use to talk about more meta aspects of the project, which don't directly relate to the world itself. In the first article in there, I discuss more in depth my I'm doing this project, and what I'm hoping to achieve with it.
I've written up some more specific thoughts on the different types of gods that I outlined in Brain Dump: God Lore. Next up I'm gonna go ahead a start building a random planet, and we'll see where it goes from there.
I started some outlining for the first world within this project. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I'm really looking forward to digging into the different aspects of the world more in depth and I'll hopefully get a lot of the foundational work for the world done throughout the week, outlining the different species, the world map and maybe even try and build the family trees for the three pantheons.

I also wrote up another little “Blog” Post about how I'm organizing the elements as I go, as well as how I'm going to approach moving forward with the project.
5. Really Starting To See The World Now (09/22/2021)
I've made some decent progress on fleshing out what the world will look like, and the species within it. Not every new element has a ton of info about them yet, but they are all beginning to fit together very nicely.

I've got a much more solid picture of what the different species look like now. While the humans will likely be the most populous species, it will be hard to go almost anywhere without running into a fairly diverse population. The other species will all be humanoid, but some will have some definite standout features.

As for the world itself, I've begun to sort out the continental climates, and I have a fairly solid picture in my head of what the map will look like, however I still need to actually get that picture down somewhere, I'm hoping to get that done by the end of the week.

Finally, as I went through and thought about when the different species were introduced, and how they all interact, I came up with a few key historical periods and events, which have been noted in the timeline.

Do please note that all of the names are fairly obviously temporary. I'm not so sure I want to commit to any specific names quite yet, as I'm not sure how far I'm going to go in terms of stuff like conlanging. That being said, I'll probably hold off on going that far for a little bit, and just pick some names that I like the sound of.
6. Maps, Maps And More Maps (09/25/2021)
I've finally gotten around to making the maps of the continents, as well as the world map. For now, they're looking pretty plain, but I'll be dressing them up with more details as I go. For now, I'm glad to have a visual reference as I begin to develop different nations and more details of the geography and about the world as a whole.

Additionally, I've also made a new “Blog” Post discussing why I chose to use Wonderdraft to make the maps.
7. Names & Colours! (09/29/2021)
So I've made the world map a little bit prettier. And I've started to come up with some names.

In addition to those updates, however, I've also begun work on building out the three different pantheons for the world.

I originally was looking to have two pantheons which were more generally acceptable, and another which was more frowned upon to worship. However instead, I think I've ended up with one pantheon which will be more widely accepted to worship, one which will be more looked down upon, and a third which isn't really worshipped at all because it is more treated as forces of natures, as opposed to gods in the same way as the other pantheons.

Specifically, the third pantheon is responsible for life and death. They deliver life, maintain it, and deliver the dead to the afterlife. It is lead by two twin gods, one representing life and the other death. However they are not viewed as good and evil, but rather simply two parts of the natural order of things.

I've added the highlights below, so go ahead and check it, or see it all on the left!
I've started outlining borders for the countries in the world. There are currently going to be 53 countries, based on the current borders, including one city state, Palidae.

I've also updates the entry for Palidae with a lot more information. I've even moved it on from the brainstorm stage and created a proper layout for it.
9. Explore Has Launched, Let's Rename! (10/18/2021)
Now that Explore has properly launched, I've decided to rename the project to something that's far more accurate as to what the actual purpose of the project is.

I thought I'd also take a moment here to reiterate exactly what the purpose anis, and the goals I am looking to achieve.

The Many Worlds Project is a place where I am looking to explore new worlds, concepts, themes and ideas that don't fit into any of my main projects. This way I can explore an idea without having to commit to a full project that either has to be abandoned, or followed through with. This way even if an idea doesn't take me very far, it can still be a part of something bigger.

I do also hope to take the worldbuilding I do here an create final products within these worlds. At earlier stages, this will probably take the form of short stories. Going forward, however, I would love to try and push into longer form novels, scripts, maybe even partner with someone to create animated shorts or films.

I have no specific end goals with this project, and hope to continue to work on it for years to come. I intend to make 100% of the worldbuilding public, and even once tiered subscriptions become available within Explore, I will make sure that 100% of the worldbuilding is available free of charge. I am, however, still considering whether I may wish to monetize some of the final products (books, short stories, etc).

If you're seeing this project for the first time, since Explore just launched, please go ahead and check out everything that I've built so far. In particular, Palidae recently receive an update with a whole bunch of really interesting details about how that city state is going to work, and get along with the rest of the world.
10. More Countries! (10/20/2021)
I've added some brainstorming for two new countries, bordering Palidae.

I've also expanded a little bit on Palidae, in particular it's Trading Halls. Go check it out, and feel free to leave comments below with what you think about it all.

Finally, I've added a little section above where I'll start putting the element that I'm most excited to share, so people can have a place to start when exploring the world.
This update isn't a huge one. The two biggest updates, are to Kamirell and Palidae, where I've updated some content and formatting.

In addition to that, I've also put down some brainstorming that had been floating around in my head for a few other worlds, however I don't intend to get working on any of them until I've made a decent amount more progress on Kamirell.

In addition to those worlds, I've also sparked an idea for a first story (or maybe set of stories) set in the world of Kamirell which I hope to get started with in the not too distant future.

And one final note, I finally gave names to the “Elf-like” species, and gave one of them a country.

I've also added in a first little worldbuilding nugget, about a special metal and cool magma forge which is used to produce it.
13. Soft vs. Hard Magic (11/04/2021)
I'm currently working on fleshing out about eight or nine more countries, as well as the oceans, seas and much more. However I was suddenly struck with an urge to talk about magic systems, specifically hard vs soft magic. So, while I continue to work on Kamirell, I'll leave you with this “Blog” Post about how I define hard vs. soft magic.
14. The World Is Getting Bigger! (11/23/2021)
A lot have things have changed. A lot of new things have arrived. I've added 16 new nations, seven oceans, four seas, discussed musings on the state of technology in Kamirell. Through all of these new and updated elements, a new rich history has begun to develop for the world of Kamirell.

I have put a lot of effort into trying to make sure that almost every nation I've developed is really connected to world, and not just an isolated idea, but rather an integral part of Kamirell. Three major empires have emerged, headed by Keldaron, Rumellion and Kandemir, respectively. Additionally, I've also tried to make sure that no one country seems like it is the focus of the world, with the rest of them simply playing supporting roles.

In addition to the new worldbuilding, I have also started writing the first story which will take place in Kamirell. I'm looking to make it into an approximately 30k word novella, and I'm currently at approximately 10k, so I'm hopeful that I can get it out by the end of the year. I will likely post a little bit more about it before it's out fully, but I'm really lookin forward to sharing it with everyone.

I haven't linked all of the new and changed elements below this post, as it would be pages long, but instead I've highlighted some of my favourites and the most important ones.
15. Where I'm Going + The First Story (12/19/2021)
Firstly, I'll address the latter portion of the title for this update. A few days ago I finished the first draft for a novella set in Kamirell. This will be the first actual story in this project and the first one set in Kamirell. As such, I'm very much looking forward to sharing it. As it's not a full-length novel, I'm hoping to get through the editing process fairly quickly (hoping being the key word here) and get it out by the end of the year; if not by the end of the year, then very early next year. I'm about half-way through the first pass of editing right now, so I'm still fairly hopeful about getting it out before 2022.

Secondly, I've written a short "Blog" Post discussing the possibility of moving onto a second world within the project. Check it out below for more details, but I'll be clear here that Kamirell will not be getting left behind, but instead I think adding in a greater variety of content to work on will actually help to keep me so invested in the project.
17. A Whole New World (02/20/2022)
After a lengthy and unintentional hiatus from any writing activities throughout the month of January and a good chunk of February, I've got the new world that I promised. Introducing: Haleon. This world will be an urban fantasy setting, with modern technology, however it will not be Earth. So far I've got a solid premise outlined in the Location element for the world, as well as a world map that I am particularly happy with.

I'm also still working on an update for Kamirell, which should be coming out within the next few days, focusing in on major religions across the world as well as some larger cultural groups.

Finally, the novella which I had hoped to release before the new year hasn't been touched in almost two months after completing the initial manuscript and making a few editing passes. I'm currently debating whether I should simply release it as it is, or hold out for some additional motivation to come in order to keep editing. If anyone has a suggestion on this, please leave a comment with your opinion. It's currently in a state that I think it readable, and is largely lacking in prose issues (although I'm sure if I post it people will be able to find some) however I'm definitely not as confident on the content side. On the other hand, I'm also worried that I'm simply not going to ever be satisfied and should therefore just get it out there so I can move on.

All in all, I'm back on the writing and worldbuilding horse and I hope to get back to posting updates more regularly again.
Not a large update, but I'm bringing some culture and religion to the world. The list of cultures especially will definitely grow a log with time, but this should be a good seed to start off with.

I tried to make sure that each of the religions has something unique about it, and not just have them each worship different gods. In addition to those religions, I've also started sorting out some cultural divides. In particular, I've started with the Shonii and the Shasii, the two major cultural groups amongst the Delphassi, as well as the first nationality outlined: Palidaeans.
As of writing this, it still hasn't finished gong through review, however you should be able to access it via the link in the linked manuscript element. (if not, then you'll unfortunately have to wait for the actual project to pass through review)
I will also say now that I have started working on Under Fire as a novel. It's in the very beginning stages, but I'm already making pretty solid progress, so I'm hoping to be able to make ongoing updates on that progress in the near future.
21. A better way to explore the project. (06/01/2022)
It has come to my attention that as the project as gotten bigger, it has gotten rather confusing as to where to actually get started reading it. To hopefully help combat this, I have put together a Project Index which can hopefully direct new readers to helpful elements and articles to get started with.
22. Magic Comes to Haleon (06/04/2022)
I've started working on developing the magic system for Haleon. I've also begun working on some of the world's origin/history.

I'm really happy with this magic system, as it blends both variety of function and variety of usability. It is also a much softer magic system than I am used to working with which has been difficult, but also rather freeing, once I've actually convinced myself to let the little things go. I'm also attempting to broach a trope of magic systems that is a personal pet peeve of mine, the dichotomy of good and evil being built into the magic system. I couldn't bring myself to go quite that far, but instead I've developed a system which is instead misunderstood by most to act in that way, with the introduction of stable and unstable magic.

Check out the big picture elements linked below, as well as the specific magical disciplines described in their own elements.
23. Continents of Haleon (06/12/2022)
I've been pushing forward on developing a little more detail and personality to the continents in Haleon. Right now, their initial descriptions sound a little more like that of countries than that of continents, however as I develop individual countries within them their descriptions will become far more nuanced.

In fact, to aid in that venture, I've already gone ahead and drawn up the borders on all seven continents. My next goal will be to start developing the major political powers.
24. Project Videos (06/16/2022)
I've decided to start making some supplemental videos which will act as both a means of bolstering the existing content in this project, exploring different aspects of worldbuilding and how I plan on applying different techniques to those aspects. Check out the intro video below and subscribe to the YouTube channel to stay up to date.

Right now, there is only the introduction video, but more content will come soon. I've already got a number of videos outlines and ready to record.

25. A Discussion of The Hierarchy of Gods (06/24/2022)
I've just posted another video on The Many Worlds Project. This one gives an overview of the hierarchy of gods in The Many Worlds Project and how they both tie the worlds together as well as set them apart.

26. Populating Haleon (07/08/2022)
I've spent the past two weeks building out the world of Haleon a little bit. There are now 53 nations in Haleon, each with their own unique bit of flavour. Many only have a few sentences so far, giving a little bit of detail about how they formed, the role they play in world events or a little bit of something that makes them unique. While others have a few paragraphs going a little bit deeper into the history of those nations and the world.

While doing so, I also developed a little bit about a major world religion, as well as a new form of governance unique to this world which a selection of these nations have adopted. If you read through all of the nation's descriptions, you will also be able to begin piecing together this world's history and how to came to be in the state it is today.

Also, as you may have noticed, I've done a touch of an update to the thumbnail for this project. I'm trying to make a little bit of "branding" for the project. Let me know what you think, still not sure I'm sold on it.
27. Giving Kamirell a Refresh (07/24/2022)
I recently popped into the Kamirell location element, to make a note of something and immediately realized just how long it had been since I had last updated it. The pages were full of "I think I might to this" and "I'm considering making something work like this". Pretty much the entire thing was speculation about things which I have long since established across other elements. So I went through and fully updated it. This may not be a massive update, but I do have another one in the works establishing a massive history to Haleon, which I am really looking forward to sharing. Look out for that coming soon.
Today's update tells the story of how Haleon came to be as it is today, from the birthing of the Elder Gods to the emergence of humanity.

I was going to hold off on releasing any of the world history until I had it all completed, however instead, I think I'm going to release it in chunks to maintain a more frequent release schedule, rather than having big chunks of time in between each update. Go check out today's update over in the Timeline module!
29. A New Kind of Magic In A new Kind of Land (08/31/2022)
A new world joins the Many Worlds Project. Kaldrei.

Formerly Unnamed World #4, Kaldrei is a world of many different kinds of magic. There are nine distinct pantheons of gods, each granting their follows a magic which is wholly different from that of any other people. These magics operate on different underlying mechanics and result in differing effects. I have previously described Kamirell as being 'fairly standard high fantasy' however I more recently realized that it is actually quite grounded fantasy world. Kaldrei is, in actually, a far more fantastical place, with the likes of flaming forests and floating islands.

I did not really intend to brings in a third world to the project so soon, I had intended to get Haleon far more fleshed out before doing so, but inspiration can hit anytime, and you can't always control what you're inspired to work on.
30. Mapping It Out (09/11/2022)
So, I'm not really happy with this map. It feels kinda cartoonish, but I also do kinda need to make things certain colours. Not really sure how I'm going to address this in the future, but for now I guess I'm just going to deal with it.

I've also made some great strides on the history of Haleon, and am hoping to get that out later this week. We'll see the early migration to Koneg, as well as follow the Ceden, Skandevv and Korokon empires. And finally, see the evolution of one of the world's religions, Maruganna Semphis.

Go check out the map for Kaldrei and let me know what you think! Is it too cartoon-y?
31. New Year: 2023 (01/05/2023)
It's been a while. The latter half of 2022 really took me away from writing and worldbuilding. This year, however, I plan on coming back in a big way. Read more about the past year, and what my plans are for 2023 in the "Blog" Post below. (or in the list on the side)

And on a much smaller note, I've finally gotten around to taking advantage of some of the newly released features for the maps module, so go check out the Kamirell and Haleon maps. (especially if you haven't already) They've received some great navigational and informational updates.

Thanks to anyone joining me here for another year of worldbuilding!
32. Progress + Ihave A Website Now (04/16/2023)
First, I want to say that I have been making some progress on a few different fronts within this project, however there don't feel quite ready for putting out there quite yet. I will tease, however, that somewhat unintentionally started going more for breadth than depth and will soon be coming out with a few new worlds, instead of the one I was planning on releasing.

On a slightly different note, I've recently started writing down some of my thoughts and musing on writing and worldbuilding. I wasn't initially intending to put them anywhere, I just wanted to get my thoughts down so I could formalize them a little bit. However after a little bit of working with them, I decided that there wasn't really any reason not to share them. As such, I put together a little website to host them.

The first article is live now. It covers some useful questions to consider when building a magic system. Whether the system you want to build is hard or soft, there are a few core components that every system needs. You can definitely get by with intuition, but actually giving these questions come careful consideration can really help to flesh out your system, or even give you inspiration for a new one.

Kamirell is a world of gods and magical intrigue. Across the five continents, the four mortal races live together. However, all is not peacefully in Kamirell. Massive Empires fight for dominance and for powers far beyond that which mortal currently possess.

The World
Geography
There are five continents within Kamirell. Four of them each spawn their own race of mortals, with the fifth being home to the immortal creatures created by the gods to act as caretakers to the world during The Age of Beasts.

Delphion, a continent of jungles and rainforests gave birth to the Delphassi. Draedunn, a continent centred around a grand desert gifted unto the world, the Hamatsii. Jotdäl, a continent bitter and cold bore the Kallegari. Finally, The Desolate Continent, once the home of the Humans, is now an inhospitable terrain home only to the Dendregaar, who brought this ruin unto the land.

The fifth continent, Matrellis, is the northernmost continent, arctic in its northern reaches, but warmer and more temperate towards its south. Once home to the Eldarani and the Dendregaar, now only the Eldarani call this place home.

Resources
The resources of Kamirell are, in large part similar to that of א-Earth.

One particular resource which is unique to Kamirell (although I'm sure there will be more) is Black Platinum, which, when forged through secret methods can become nearly indestructible.

Magic
Magic In Kamirell

Mechanics
The magic system in Kamirell is based in the elements. In particular, Fire Magic, Water Magic, Earth Magic, Air Magic, and Aether Magic. Every magic can be categorized into one of these five elements. For example, weather magic might be water & air. Aether is used to label anything that deals with sentient life, like telepathy, life-force related stuff, etc.

Gods
Gods of Kamirell
There are three pantheons of gods which are present in the world of Kamirell.

The Pantheon of Creation, The Pantheon of Destruction and The Pantheon of Life. The former two are widely worshipped, while the latter is more commonly viewed as forces of natures than gods to be worshipped. Additionally, The Pantheon of Destruction, despite what may be assumed from the name, is not viewed as evil, but rather the necessary counterpart to The Pantheon of Creation.

Impact
While magic has had a massive impact on the history of Kamirell, in the modern day it is far more subdued. There continues to be an active presence of magic, however the numbers of those proficient enough to have world-changing effects have dwindled in the modern age. Most individuals who practice in the modern era do so on a small scale.

The largest impact of magic in the modern era is in the space of magitech, allowing for the advancement of various technologies.

People
Species
There are six primary species which populate Kamirell, four mortal and two immortal. The two immortal species, the Eldarani and the Dendregaar two races of minor gods which were created by the pantheons to act as custodians of the planet during The Age of Beasts.

The four mortal species are the Humans, Hamatsii, Delphassi and Kallegari. The hamatsii are especially adept when in hot, dry climates. The delphassi adapted to hot and humid environments and the kallegari adapted to the harshness of the cold. While humans were more well rounded, not especially adapted to any on environment, but moderately suited to any climate.

Populations
There are major populations upon four of the five continents. The Desolate Continent, however, only major population, the Dendregaar, have settled. The continent does have a small number of minor settlements, as well as a handful of prisons established along the coasts, run by foreign nations.

Across the remaining four continents, there are three major empires which sprawl across the planet. These three empires are the Rumellion Empire, the Keldaron Empire and the Kandemir Empire.

The nation of Eldracor has a notable population, primarily populated by Eldarani, who have managed to advance technologically far beyond most of the world due to their long lifespans and almost purely peaceful history.

Additionally, while not a massive population, the city-state of Palidae is a hub of both culture and economy on Kamirell.

Politics & Government
Most of the nations in Kamirell are monarchies, a few are constitutional monarchies, and a handful of non-monarchical dictatorships. There are some independent settlements scattered throughout, who don't really associate with a particular government. Most of these are fairly small villages, but there is also a single city-state, Palidae, which is a cultural and economic hub. This city-state is run by a council composed of the heads of each of the Major Guilds in the city.

Interactions
The Keldaron, Rumellion and Kandemir empires are frequent instigators of internation events. Whether it be trade relations, military conflicts or diplomatic negotiations.

Another key player in facilitating interactions between nations is the city-state of Palidae. They facilitate a massive amount of the trade which occurs between different nations, as well as playing a role in the diplomatic discussions between nations in both times of peace and conflict.

Haft has become renowned for its schools of statesmanship, leading to it being an additional hub for foreign nations to meet in both peace and times of conflict, and serves as a neutral ground.

Arynaya is the largest shipping hub in Kamirell. Almost every ship trading across different continents stops in at Arynaya at some point.

History
History of Kamirell
The first children that the old gods brought into the world were Yhton and Qhixerin. These two Young Gods gods then, with the aid of their parents, brought their siblings into existence. Catarae, the god of creation, and Onos, the god of destruction. Together, these siblings and their parents constructed the world of Kamirell. They then each went about creating their own children, dividing the gods into three families. These three families lived in peace for eons.

However, when the Old Gods left, the three families grew increasingly antagonistic of one another. The Young Gods, Yhton, Qhixerin, Catarae and Onos, met in secret to negotiate a peace. Their children, however, whished not to abide by these accords. In response, the young gods created and unleashed hordes of monsters, demons and other beasts upon the land to drive back their own children, ending The Age of The Gods and bringing forth The Age of Beasts.

Soon after, two species of Under Gods were born. These species, the Eldarani and the Dendregaar, were made to serve as custodians unto the word, keeping the beast in check. Throughout the age, the gods continued to experiment with different beasts. The under gods tamed the beasts, and those that could not be tamed were imprisoned. Eventually, this experimentation in creating new beasts lead to the birth of the first mortals. These creatures, while intelligent and resilient of mind, were born into feeble bodies.

The greatest of these new mortals, alongside the Eldarani and the Dendregaar, slays the great beats which stood as threats against them. However, seeing that this was happening from its prison, The Great Beast, the most powerful of all the beasts created by the god broke free and unleashed its minions, ravaging the lands. In order to seal it away forever, the Dendregaar bound the blood of their species to the land to ensure the strength of the chains which hold the creature. This lead to the entirety of The Desolate Continent becoming inhospitable as the land too became drained of its life force.

After this, the mortals moved on, bringing forth The Age of Mortals. They spread out and settles the lands, forming nations and advancing over the millennia. They learning to tap into the powers of magic to do great wonders and grew to know the terrible powers of war. In time, their origins and the age of beast became nothing more than mere myths and legends to most.

Haleon is a world not unlike our own. Similar to much urban fantasy, magic was previously prevalent in the world, but it has since been largely forgotten. Modern society will look very similar to our own in terms of technological advancements. I am going to make use of modern similarities between this world and our own to focus on a different set of worldbuilding details. In particular, I really want to focus on the magic system, magical species and societies/cultures.

The World
Geography
Haleon is comprised of seven continents. There are no notable geographic features which would affect the world as a whole. The planet is constructed similarly to Earth.

Resources
The resources of Haleon are of a similar distribution to א-Earth.

Magic
Magic In Haleon

Mechanics
Magic in this world plays on a dichotomy of stable vs. unstable magic. People often interpret this magic as good vs. evil, light vs. dark, whole vs. corrupt and many other labels which ascribe some sort of morality to the two sides, however in reality no such natural alignment exists.

Stable magics function consistently and predictably. Unstable magic, however, is much the opposite. While the general effect of the magics may be known, random side effects are extremely common. The tradeoff, however, is that unstable magic offers far greater potency. Unstable magics can pierce the veil between life and death, infect the mind and ultimately even alter reality itself.

Most magics are performed via one of three primary means. Incantation, ritual or communion with a deity, with incantation being by far the most common.

Additionally, objects can be imbued with magical properties.

Usage
Those who have an inherent magical ability have greatly reduced in number over the course of a couple of centuries due primarily to persecution by those without it.

Magic was originally granted to humans by the gods, and over generations of exposure they developed a natural affinity.

Those who are not descendants of those blessed by the magics of the gods cannot perform magic without either forming a communion with a god, or taking advantage of magical objects.

Gods
Gods of Haleon
The gods which play a notable role in this world will be limited to the Old Gods and the Young Gods. However, the former are divided into two camps. There are the fundamentals, who embody the primordial forces of the universe, and the elder gods, who are the more participatory gods who spawned the younger generation and formed the world.

Impact
Magic played a large role in this world's history. The modern impact is more minimal, however, it is definitely still present.

Magic played a prominent role in setting up cultural and political divides which still last to this day. While often not leaders themselves, because leaders tend to change frequently, magical dynasties have influenced many empires, both old and modern, throughout history.

People
Species
The only natural sapient species in Haleon, excluding the Gods, are humans. While there will be a few others, they have all their been created by, or evolved through magical means. For example, the Fae were once human, however they have evolved into what they are now due to their prolonged and concentrated connection to magic.

Populations
The majority of the planet is widely populated by human civilizations, much akin to Earth. While some less hospitable environments will be more sparsely populated, most of the planet is fairly densely packed.

Politics & Government
Of the seven continents of Haleon: Astir, Kanapra, Handeheim and Koneg are far more prosperous than the other three. These four are also the most densely populated. Ursalva and Sigorrin fuel the global supply chain, acting as manufacturing centres. Vanemir however, is largely marsh and swamp land, making the construction of large facilities for manufacturing, processing or even just basic infrastructure difficult.

The Astir and Kandeheim are home to the two most prominent global superpowers.

Dominion States
Dominon (Haleon)
A Dominion State is one which is ruled by a dominion. This is a fairly modern governmental system, first appearing less than two centuries ago.

Rika
A rika is a theocratic state run under the religion of Maruganna Semphis. In a rika, there are strict rules which enforce cultural norms. While there is significant cultural differences between different rika there a certain tenants core to Maruganna Semphis which are common among them.

History
History of Haleon
This world was created by virtue of the of the Old Gods coming into being. In one faction, the Fundamentals formed the underlying structure to the universe, representing creation, destruction, death, formation, power, and more. In a second faction, the Elder Gods take advantage of the forces which the Fundamentals provide to build upon the blueprint laid out by the world's creation. They bring forth the mortals, granting powerful magics to those who earn their favour. They bring forth the fauna and flora of Haleon.

The Elder Gods rules over Haleon for millennia. Eventually, however, they grow bored with their creations and retreat to their own paradise, where they spawn a new generation of gods, the Young Gods. This younger generation wished to be free to explore the world. However, the Elder Gods forbid it, as they believe that their creation is perfection and that they could only taint it by venturing into it.

Eventually, the old gods are overthrown by a sect of their children. Their paradise is corrupted. The Young Gods descend upon the world and spread chaos. Eventually, the Young Gods also grow bored and many of them retreat other planes which they created. None, however, ever match the paradise which they destroyed.

Timeline
Founding of The Ceden Empire
The Ceden Empire was founded on Kanapra approximately three thousand years ago. It was formed by a young woman named Greland, the spiritual leader of a small village, also named Ceden. She was the healer of her village and she was allegedly able to call upon the spirits to heal any wound. Rumours suggested she could even revive the recently dead.

With stories spreading among the surrounding tribes and villages, Greland did everything should could to keep up with the ever increasing demands for her powers. The constant use of her healing abilities caused Greland to grow evermore strained. Eventually, attempting to heal even the most basic of ailments left her exhausted, even causing her to fall unconscious from time to time. Her mother, Sasyni, stepped up to triage the incoming pleas for Greland's aid. She turned away anyone who was not in dire need.

Soon, however, Sasyni came to see the powerful position this had put her in. Not only had the leaders of their own tribe all but handed over the reigns, but even the leaders of the surrounding tribes gave deference to Grelend's power. While Grelend remained the figurehead, Sasyni began working machinations to consolidate this newfound power. She fed Greland a steady source of those in need to keep her in a constant weakened state. Even an Greland took on an official seat of power as their tribe grew, Sasyni would most often speak on Greland's behalf, even when she was present as she was too weak to speak.

While Greland's father had long since died while out on a hunt, Sasyni took on a new lover, Halstuk, the leader of one of the largest tribes on southern Kanapra. With Sasyni now in league with Halstuk, her tactics changed. While previously she stole power via her daughter's gifts, she now had a powerful army to server her every whim. With Greland as its face the power of Ceden grew quickly across the plains of southern Kanapra.

Spread Across Kanapra
Sasyni and Halstuk seized much of southern Kanapra in a matter of decades. It was said that Sasyni and Halstuk, because of her daughters gifts, lived well beyond their years. Giving them many further decades to push their brutal campaign. They were said to be 140 when they took the final tribes on the northernmost coasts of Kanapra.

During this campaign, Sesyni continued to use the figurehead of her daughter to quell the unrest in this new empire. She sold a message of peace and prosperity. And for most under their reign, this did truly come to pass. While their methods of rapid expansion were brutal, they did provide for their people. They moved surplus harvests from more bountiful lands to the arid south. They trained and educated their citizenry. They toured the lands with Greland, healing the aged and sick.

Spread To Astir
While historians are divided on who actually lead the Ceden Empire at this time, it was said that Sasyni and Halstuk were nearly 200 years old when they lead the first voyages across the ocean to Astir. While the ground of Astir was not as fertile as Kanapra, Greland was able to bring life to the barren ground.

Ceden rapidly expanded to fill this new land. However, the far north, an apparent land of permanent winter, proved difficult, even with Greland's powers in play.

It was only a few years after settling in Astir, their Sasyni and Halstuk gave birther to a son. Although most historians agree that this figure was, in all likelihood, their great-grandson. After the birth of their son, Aleccus, they travelled back to Kanapra to raise him in the royal palace. Halstruk left the settlements on Astir with a final set of directives. They began to produce an impressive military and a massive navy. Due to Astir being inaccessible to most of the empire, this was easily kept a secret from much of the people of the Ceden Empire. While some rumours of this grand army spread, they were not given much credence as the people of the empire had always been taken care of.

Death Of Greland
Greland, who had been the face of the empire since its inception, died at nearly 200 years old. As the royal family was always very secretive and sheltered, most historians conclude that the royal family kept up this image of immortal ruling family over the course of generations as a means of justifying their rule. The relative isolation of the family was conducive to this as it minimized repeated exposure to the common people.

The death of Greland was a massive occurrence, the news of which overtook the entire empire. When Greland died, her powers, which sustained Sasyni and Halstuk faded with her. Aleccus, now 22, took the throne after the death of his sister and parents. Very much his father's son, Aleccus drew purpose from the expansion of the empire.

While Ceden took hold of Kanapra, many attempted to flee the continent. Some of these people succeeded in finding a new home on Ursalva. To Honour his father, Aleccus, upon ascending to the throne, set his sights immediately upon Ursalva.

Remaining Tribes Migrate To The Southern Mainland
When it was decided, after much conflict, to yet again leave this new home they had made for themselves, the division between them lead to two different groups leaving the islands with two different headings. One of those groups set sail towards the South, finding the Vanamir mainland. These people spread out across this mainland over the course of several decades. While the mainland held more stable terrain, it was still not stable enough to support larger villages. Many of these settlements died out, not due to the sinking of their settlements, but rather due to an inability to adapt their agriculture methods successfully to the land.

Consolidation In The West
After many of the settlements built upon the Vanamir died out, many of the remaining population migrated towards the west. The colder climate in the west made for a firmer ground, allowed for larger settlements to grow. Over time, this lead to the population being almost entirely consolidated in the furthest west portion of the mainland.

Timeline
Early Migration To Koneg Begins
Early humans depart from the south-west coast of Kanapra. Many tribes worked together to build great ships, like nothing of them have ever made before. They did this as they sought to find a land promised to them by the spirits that they worshiped. These small ships made their way between small islands over the course of years. They eventually reach the north-east coast of Vanamir.

Early Settlement Of Vanamir Northern Islands
After touching down on the eastern-most of Vanamir's northern islands, many people believed that this new land they had discovered was the land promised to them by the spirits. However, when they attempted to build new settlements, over the course of the following decade, their buildings, even as small as they were, began to sink into the earth. While in reality this was due to the unstable wetlands which they had built upon, however the people believed it to be the spirits, angry with their settlement, and that they needed to move on to another land.

Expansion Across Northern Islands
After leaving the eastern-most island, the early humans would go on to settle the rest of the northern islands. However, due to the majority of Vanamir being composed of wetlands and other unstable terrains, meaning that each settlement slowly sunk into the earth, prompting them to continue further west.

During this time, there was much discord amongst the populations of these islands. More than a few conflicts broke out over disagreements on whether to continue further, or turn back. Given that these travels had happened over the course of a mere 50 years or so, much of the population still remembered the homeland which they had left behind.

First Ships Leave Vanamir Going West
When it was decided, after much conflict, to yet again leave this new home they had made for themselves, the division between them lead to two different groups leaving the islands with two different headings. While one group set sail towards the south, a slight majority of the people continued westward.

This sailing party, again moving between smaller islands as they travel, after almost five years, became separated. Half of them decided to turn back, and spent the following seven years making their way back to Vanamir. The other half of the people continued west, with every ship eventually sinking.

Second Western Migration From Vanamir
After another 70 years back on the Vanamir northern islands, the people set off once more, now with greater ship building and navigation technologies. These new ships, both faster and on a more direct route, left the western shores and managed to reach the eastern shores of Koneg in a mere 6 years.

Early Settlement Of Koneg's Little Island
The first place that settlers made land on Koneg was on the Little Island. Finally, they had found fertile ground to settle. Despite the fact that that their population had dwindled on the way over to their new home, after settling on Koneg their population bloomed. From around ten thousand, to over 250 thousand in over the following century. While much of the environment was arid, they discovered how to cultivate the native plantlife which had adapted to this terrain.

First Tribes Leave The Little Island For The West
Over the course of the century following their arrival, belief in their sacred journey wane and the idea of continuing to explore further grew more popular. The Big Island to the west was clearly visible from from the western coast of the Little Island and the water between them made for a minor obstacle. However, people were forbidden by the tribes' elders as they believed that it would be sacrilegious to leave the new homeland which the spirits spent centuries leading them to.

It was not long, however, before faith in the old ways was no longer driving most people and multiple parties decided to venture off to the Big Island, taking tens of thousands in tow.

The Big Island was just as prosperous a region for these new settlers, however it offered much more space to expand into. With this new space to grow, technology began to advance at a rapid pace, with agricultural technology at the fore. The advancement in irrigation technology lead to plumbing and water treatment. One further major achievement during this settlement was the invention of a simple mechanical crane. This allowed for the rapid construction of much larger structures than had previously been possible.

Tribes Leave The Little Island For The South
Over the course of the century following their arrival, belief in their sacred journey wane and the idea of continuing to explore further grew more popular. When entire tribes set off for the Big Island, many others decided to sail south. These people quickly found the Koneg mainland.

Upon settling in the mainland, they discovered the native wildlife there could be rather hostile. This lead to advancements in both defensive and offensive technologies. Their villages and eventual cities were walled and the advent of large ballistic weaponry.

The initial seclusion of these settlements lead to the political structures to be much more fractured than they had been in the past, as travelling between cities remained dangerous for a long time.

Mainland Tribes Begin To Spread West
After settling on the mainlands and constructing their fortified cities, the people eventually were able to overcome the threats of the native animal populations and even domesticated some of them.

With open travel once again on the menu, many people formed new tribes and settled further west.

Tribes Migrate South From The Northern Islands
With the rapid expansion of population within the western island, the people decided to explore further. Some people attempted to set sail further west, however they were unsuccessful in their endeavours. Others, however, sailed south, quickly reaching the Koneg mainland.

Here, they brought with themselves the new farming and building technologies to rapidly expand towards the West of the mainland.

First Contact Betweeen Cultures
Having spend much time apart, the tribes from the northern islands and the East of the mainland immediately had troubles communicating, which lead to many minor conflicts between them.

Most of these conflicts resolved themselves quickly. However, others brewed under the surface for a long time. While each individual tribe had its own sense of cultures, a greater cultural divide was growing between the two larger groups.

Kupnicara-Lutaraka War
The Kupnicara-Lutaraka war broke out between the two cultures which had come into conflict in the West of the Koneg mainland.

The Kupnicara, as they came to call themselves were an aligned group of tribes migrated south from the northern Islands. The Lutaraka were a group of tribes which had spread West from the East of the continent.

The Kupnicara were a fierce and unified force, fighting as one. Meanwhile, the Lutaraka, while allied, fought mostly independently. Despite their lack of cohesion, the Lutaraka were still a force to be reckoned with. The Kupnicara relied on strategy and organization, while the Lutaraka relied much more heavily on guerrilla warfare techniques. Eventually, both sides relented. While it is generally concluded that the Kupnicara were the victors, neither side was wiped out or conquered entirely.

After the war, the Kupnicara came together to form a single nation. Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the war, the Vasitorin tribe, of the Lutaraka took the opportunity to seize control of their weakened allied, leading swift invasions of their territories, bringing them under the control of the Vasitorin tribe.

Timeline
The Birthing of The Old Gods
As the universe formed in a violent and tumultuous fury, out of it came the Old Gods in two kinds. The Fundamentals brought unto the universe its primordial powers. Later, the Elder Gods took those powers and used them to make the contents of the universe.

These two groups of cosmic entities were borne of the same chaotic powers, however their actions in those first moments of creation set them apart forever. The Fundamentals looked at the chaos and saw order within it. They sought to realize that order. The Elder Gods, at first, saw only chaos. However, as the order emerged before them, they saw all of the possibilities of what could come to be.

The Fundamentals Create The Primordial Forces
After coming into being, when the Fundamentals looked into the heart of eternity they saw the inherent order possible through the chaos. These gods sought to realize this order. To do so, they formed the primordial powers of the universe.

First came Power. Power took hold of the heart of creation and brought forth the energies which make up the universe.

Next came Creation. Creation harnessed that energy for form the primal æther which acts as the clay to be molded into reality.

Next came Formation. Formation utilizes the æther of creation and forms the material and energy that makes up the universe.

Next came Animation. Animation introduced change into the universe, resulting in the flow of time.

Next came Destruction. Destruction began breaking down the materials and energies back into primal æther to be recycled into new creations.

Finally came Death. Death manifests as the end of all things. It consumes the primal æther and once it has consumed it all, it will return it to chaos.

The Elder Gods Use The Primordial Fores To Shape The Worlds
After the manifest of the primordial powers, the Elder Gods took hold of these new powers in order to populate the universe with, first, stars, then planets, and eventually life.

Every star and every planet they built was an experiment. Eventually, they built Haleon. This was the ultimate culmination of their work. Here they made life. First, they grew plants out of the soil. Next, they created the fauna that roam the land.

The First Mortals Are Created
The Elder Gods created, amongst the flora and fauna they had thus far populated the world with, the first mortals. The gods experimented with the creation of different shapes and forms, different strengths and weaknesses. Eventually, these creatures would come to be known only in the myths and legends of humanity.

Every emergence of new life was infused with a small spark of primal æther. This ensured that none would live forever, as all such would eventually be consumed by Death.

The Elder Gods Create Paradise
Content with the product of the machinations, the Elder Gods left the mortal realm, and moved instead to build a home for themselves from where they could stand back and allow their creations to expand across the world and grow into what they knew they could become.

They built a paradise for themselves to live in, where they could observe the mortal realm.

The Young Gods Are Born
Seeing the creatures they created grow and form connections that they themselves were incapable of made the Elder Gods long for such things. This was the final piece missing from their paradise.

The gods brought into their paradise new gods, their children. These Young Gods, came into the wondrous world of this paradise and lived in harmony with their parents for centuries. However, they eventually grew restless watching the mortal realm, but forbidden from ever visiting it.

The Elder Gods Are Overthrown
The Young Gods grew resentful of their parents. They wished to go and experience the world which they built, and were sick and tired of excuses as to why they were forbidden. A group of young gods banded together to overthrow their parents. Other young gods stood in resistance, but they were too few in number to stop them.

The Elder Gods put up little resistance as their children came to oust them from paradise and attempt to destroy them. The young gods severed the bonds which held their paradise together, causing all of the gods to fall from grace.

The Young Gods Descend Upon Haleon
The Young Gods descended upon Haleon like children into a bin of toys. They were immediately fascinated with theses fragile creations and the mortals were just as fascinated with them. The mortals began to worship the young gods and they, in return, granted them boons. For a long time, these gods were patronized by the mortals and this brought the gods great satisfaction. They scoffed at the warnings they received from their parents as only good had come from their descent.

Havoc And Destruction Are Wrought Upon Haleon
After some time ruling over Haleon, the Young Gods grew disillusioned. The worship of their people meant less than it had before. First, they began to command their followers in holy wars against those who worshipped their siblings and cousins. Eventually an outright war of the gods broke out.

However, soon after the gods began to fight, the first of them fell. When this happened, and consequences to their actions became real, they blames the mortals for coming between them. The young gods then worked to wreak havoc upon the mortals, wiping some species out of existence entirely. Driving most of them to near extinction.

The Young Gods Leave In An Attempt To Find A New Paradise
Now done with the world of Haleon, the Young Gods leave the world behind. Having destroyed the paradise they once called home, they sought to find a new home where they could once again be at peace. They tried to create it anew, but without the assistance of their parents, they was no chance they there were going to be able to remake what once was.

The family of gods fell divided, some heading out into the cosmos, others building worlds of their own, forever trying to recreate what was lost.

Humanity Emerges
From the ashes of the destruction which the Young Gods wrought upon Haleon, a new mortal species crawled out of the dirt. Unlike the other species, which had been hand crafted by the gods, this species evolved from the beasts of Haleon. Humanity emerged on the continent of Kanapra.

This new, simple, species were born with no understanding of the world which they have come into. They know nothing of the gods, or the other mortal creatures which ruled this land for millennia before they arrived. Naively, humans believed themselves to be alone in this world. But soon, some humans would learn the secrets of this world. Secrets of gods and magic and creatures of myth and legend.

Timeline
Age of The Gods
The Age of The Gods was the time when the gods lived on the world alone. Before even the Under Gods were borne. They lived in peace for millennia, as three families. However, after some time, the Old Gods decided to leave. Their sudden disappearance caused the three families to grow antagonistic of one another.

The three different families began to war against one another in the War of The Gods. The eldest members of the families, the Young Gods, met in secret and negotiated a peace. Their children, however, did not wish to abide by this new accord and chose to keep fighting. The Young Gods, seeing this, created hoards of monsters, demons and other creatures and unleashed them upon the world, driving back their own children. And thus began Age of Beasts.

War of The Gods
The War of The Gods began shortly after the Old Gods left the world. The three families were unable to reach an equilibrium of power once the Old Gods had gone.

The Young Gods met in secret to come to a peace agreement. However, their children refused to abide by the accord which was struck, so the Young Gods unleashed hoards of beasts upon the world in order to drive their own children back. At the same time, their created the Eldarani and Dendregaar to keep those beasts in check.

Age of Beasts
The Age of Beasts was borne out of the war of the gods. The Eldarani and Dendregaar were created shortly after the beasts and were made custodians of the planet, keeping the beasts in check. The Under Gods spread quickly across the world and tamed the beasts. The beast they could not tame, they built prisons for and locked them away. Ending the age, the greatest of all the beasts, The Great Beast, broke free, unleashing its minions upon the world, attacking the Under Gods. In order to re-imprison the beast, the Dendregaar bound the blood of their species to the land in order to strengthen the chains which bind it. This scorched the continent, making it nearly inhospitable.

At the end of the age, the Young Gods experimented with creating new beasts, and the result of their experiments was the mortals. These new creatures, however, were feeble and easily succumbed to the even the weakest of the beasts. In order to protect them, then Under Gods, along with the greatest of the mortals, destroyed the great beasts. The few that remain are those that live, domesticated by the Under Gods. Possibly, the greatest ones, which were in prison, are also still around and have been long since forgotten by the mortals.

Age of Mortals
After the world was purged of beasts, the mortals quickly spread across the continents. The Eldarani retreated to Matrellis. The Dendregaar remained in isolation on The Desolate Continent. Mortals quickly built their own nations, and, over the generations, forgot their origins, and Age of Beasts. Those beasts became nothing more than myths and legends; many mortals don't even believe that the beasts were ever anything more.
Draedunn is the birthplace of the Hamatsii. They are the primary occupants of the continent's harsh deserts, and are especially adapted to survive and thrive within its extreme climate.

Large populations of humans also reside on Draedunn, however hey primarily live outside of the mountain ranges which contain the desert.

Populations
Draedunn by far contains the most independent nations. A long series of primarily human populated nations lines the space between the coasts and the mountain ranges.

Within the mountains, a vast collection of smaller nations span the desert. The desert nations which span the space between gaps in the mountains form vital trade route across the continent.
