Page created.

New page

I've been working on Kamirell for over three months now. Few days ago I finished the first draft of a novella set in the world. I've outlined 18 separate and unique nations and it's got a pretty good foundation laid out to for the world's history to be built upon.

I've been thinking over the past week or two about moving on to a new, second, world. Now, to be clear, I'm not done with Kamirell, I still have a lot more work to do there, including the obviously missing remaining nations, filling out the world history, flushing out the magic system and getting around to all the other story ideas I've got for the world. But all that being said, I have noticed myself running out of steam a little bit while working on Kamirell, and I think that including my first additional world in the project will help my get re-energized and get more work done on both worlds.

As for which world I'm going to work on, I'm not so sure on that yet, I have a couple seeds for worlds listed in the Locations module, and looking though them now none of them are giving me a huge urge to work on them, so I think I'm going to spend at least a few days stewing on that question. A small part of me is leaning towards Unnamed World #4, however I'd like to work on something a little more different from Kamirell before returning to something that's more traditional high fantasy. That being said, I think I'm going to stay within the realm of fantasy right now, and away from sci-fi, maybe saving that for world number three.

Now, thinking a little bit more big picture, I am also beginning to think about what this means in the long term. How often should I start on a new world? How many worlds am I hoping to build in the end? As what point will I be done with a world, if ever? Since this isn't a full-time job, but rather a hobby, the more worlds I create, I will quickly run into the time I have to work on this project, as well as others, limiting how often I'd be able to return to any given world. And further to that, even more so affected would be any ongoing stories set within them. As such, I'm hoping to start experimenting with different scheduling techniques to make sure that I can effectively return to all the little corners of the project that I don't want to be forgotten, however that will likely be a process that evolves over time, so I don't know exactly what that will look like, however I will probably post it somewhere as it will likely correspond fairly accurately to when things actually gets updated.

All this being said, for the next week or two, I will still be solely focused on Kamirell. I'm hoping to get some more cultural elements documents, as well, maybe as some more of the world's history before I get started on the new world.
