I'm also interested in exploring how some of these world types cane exist within the same world type. Maybe in a similar fashion to something like Stargate, where you have worlds of all different levels of technology, then they're all tied together by a super futuristic/technologically advanced group who either may or may not be around anymore. Or it can just be a difference in advancement on the same planet, especially if they aren't too far apart. For example, a more medieval world, where one country has gone slightly steampunk after discovering a crude steam engine. | I'm also interested in exploring how some of these world types cane exist within the same world type. Since I've already introduce the idea of a multiverse in Bain Dump: God Lore, I'm gonna take full advantage of that.
To get away, a little bit, from the Urban Fantasy that I'm much more used to working in, I'm gonna try to focus on more “medieval” or “epic fantasy” type settings. I'd also like to explore some steam or diesel punk worlds/regions. Also, since these worlds are actively formed by gods, I can allow much more for breaks from reality where not everything has to conform to the laws of physics, etc. (for example, “floating island” type planets, or planets of the backs of giant space animals, etc)
These worlds can also exists across many different universes, but they can also exist within the same one. Since I'm focussing more on low-tech civilizations, it's not likely there'll be a ton of space travel though, so even in they're in the same universe, they likely won't interact too much. That being said, maybe travelling with magic (i.e. teleportation/portals) can be done fairly easily within the same universe, but to travel to a different one is a huge deal. I think that could definitely come in handy later on.
Possible world ideas:
- Standard epic fantasy (Middle Earth style)
- Water world
- Early 20th century-esque
- Ancient Egypt-esque
- Steam/diesel punk
- Modern (probably less focus)
- Futuristic (probably less focus)
I'll definitely be adding to this list as I go. I'll probably also have multiple worlds in some of these styles (especially the more Middle Earth style) to explore different approaches to the same, or similar concepts/situations.
Magic systems are also something I'll have to think about. They'll probably be linked to a particular world. But maybe some of them, depending on the source of the magic are transferable? Like, if you use your own lifeforce, or energy or whatever to do the magic, then you can do it anywhere? But if it's drawn from something in your environment, then you lose it when you leave that world. Or maybe if you draw it from a particular god (whether you know that or not) then you lose it when you leave that god's domain.
