Cultural divides throughout the nation lead to significant unrest, and the referendum was held in an attempt to avoid a civil war. The referendum succeeded. After seven years of negotiation and attempts by the government of the Southern Republic of Abbott to thwart the follow-through of the secession failed, the Dominion State of Conkram was born.
