Masamarak is populated by a cultural group previously subjugated by the Korokon Empire. The new regime made a deal with them to allow them an independent nation state in exchange for their assistance in the insurrection.
While the new state may be modest in comparison to the empire they helped conquer, the foudning of their nation is celebrated as a momentous occasion upon which they were granted true freedom which their people had not seen in centuries.
