It's been a year since I've written one of these. And it's been a few months since I've posted any updates at all. Unfortunately, due to a combination of overambition and some unexpected developments throughout the year, I accomplished little of what I had set out to do for this project, and of my writing more broadly, in the past year. That being said, let's take a look at what I have managed to check off the list:
- I released my first novella, here on Explore
- While I didn't complete it, I did make some progress on the novel I was in the middle of (you can find the first few chapters here on Explore as well)
- I released two new worlds in The Many Worlds Projects: Haleon and Kaldrei
From my original list that I gave in the last “Blog” Post, these three are the main accomplishments. However, I did manage to pull off a few other things I was hoping to do. First, throughout the year a developed some better organizational habits around the project, which have really helped be keep it all under control. I've also made solid some progress on a larger writing project outside of Explore.
To be perfectly honest, my motivation to write really waned in the latter half of the year. In combination with work getting busier than I expected, and a cross-country move, the second half of this year really took me away from writing almost entirely.
All that being said, I do have some renewed goals for the upcoming year.
- I want to bring forward the goal from last year to write six short stories. (However, this time around I don't think I'm going to commit to them being a serial, which should allow a bit more freedom for creativity to take me wherever it so chooses)
- I want to add three more worlds to The Many Worlds Project (I've already got one brewing--more on that below)
- I want to put out a second novella (bringing this one back from last year as well)
These goals should be a little bit lighter than the ones I set for myself this past year, and at the same time I'm working on ways to dedicate even more time to writing than I have in the past. So hopefully I'm going to be able to under-promise, and over-deliver.
Finally, I wanted to give a quick tease about the new world I mentioned above. While Kaldrei isn't quite as developed as I would have liked it to be before moving on to the next world, I've truly fallen in love with this next one. This upcoming world is going to be my first “earth clone”. It will ostensibly take place on out modern day Earth, with some modifications. Earlier in the year, I created an entry for . This represents our real world. This new world will be a designated variant of it. Additionally, this will be my first sci-fi focused world in the project.
To conclude, I wanted to extend a thank you to everyone who has taken the time to stop by this project to give it a look, click around the elements, and especially those who engaged by leaving either a rating, a comment or giving a follow.
